Answer · Guard v2
Is there a trading lockout that forces a real break — not just a popup?
Last reviewed: June 2026
Short answer
Yes. Meridian Guard v2, on the standalone Meridian apps for Tradovate and Ironbeam accounts (early access), includes a Cool-down Wall: when your own pre-set rule fires, your screen is covered by a full-screen cool-down with a guided breathing pacer and a countdown — not a dialog you can click away. You pre-choose a soft wall (can be Alt-Tabbed in an emergency) or a hard wall (re-asserts focus until the timer releases you). If you hold a position, the wall first verifies you are flat — offering one-click flatten or manage-it-yourself — so it never traps an open trade. On NinjaTrader 8, Guard escalates through five levels up to a broker disconnect.
Why a popup is not a break
Every trader who has tilted knows the move: the warning dialog appears, the hand clicks it away, the next order goes in. The whole problem with tilt is that the person at the keyboard in that moment is not the person who set the rule. A lockout that can be dismissed by the tilted version of you is not a lockout — it's a speed bump.
That is the design brief behind the Cool-down Wall: the break has to actually happen.
What the Cool-down Wall does
- Covers the whole screen. Not a dialog — a full-screen takeover with your rule's name, a countdown, and nothing to trade on.
- Guides the break. A breathing pacer (in for four seconds, out for six) and occasional calm one-liners. The wall isn't a punishment screen; it's a structured cool-down, closer to a meditation timer than to a lock screen.
- Never traps an open position. If you hold a position when the rule fires, a small dialog comes first: close it for me, or I'll close it myself. The wall only takes over once you are verifiably flat — and closing or reducing a position is never blocked, at any tier.
- Soft or hard — your call, made in advance. The soft wall can be Alt-Tabbed for emergencies. The hard wall re-asserts focus until the timer releases you. You pick per rule, while calm.
When even a wall isn't enough
Above the wall sits Cut: a Windows-firewall block of your broker's order servers, so an order physically cannot leave that PC — the one stop that holds even a market order from that machine (a phone or second device is outside it). See can trading software block me from placing orders? for how that works.
And on NinjaTrader 8?
The NinjaTrader 8 add-on, available today, escalates through five levels — Notify, Risk Alert, Acknowledge, Trading Pause, and a full broker Disconnect — with the same philosophy: you write the rule calm, Guard enforces it tilted, and a Strict Lock your tilted self can't switch off can make every pause hold for its full window. The Cool-down Wall and Cut are part of Guard v2, first on the standalone apps.
